2023 season summary
The 2023 season was the first year JFG Motorsports would focus their efforts solely on 8 Cylinder divisions without any 4 Cylinder race cars. JFG Motorsports would compete in the Lancaster Motorplex races, as well as Race of Champions Street Stock divisions, and the New York Super Stock Series with Tom Brinser's Super Stock. The team also purchased a Super Stock of their own and raced other select Super Stock events.
May:
-5/6: Lancaster Motorplex - Street Stock: 1st -5/13: Lancaster Motorplex - Street Stock: 2st -5/13: Lancaster Motorplex - Super Stock: DQ
The first race for the 2023 season was at Lancaster, where the car had the second fastest lap time in the last race at Lancaster. The car was completely stripped down to the chassis and rebuilt throughout the off-season. The rebulid proved to be a success, leading to the first win for a JFG Motorsport's prepared 8 cylinder race car in the season opener and a second place finish the following week. In the Tom Brinser prepared Super Stock, there were high hopes for this season. Coming into Lancaster, the team worked through transmission problems throughout the day, but was able to cross the line in second. Unfortunately after the race, a conserverial shock was deemed illegal on the car. While this oversight makes it tough for a championship in the New York Super Stock series, JFG Motorsports and Tom Brinser agree to finish out the year and race as many races as possible.
June:

The month of June saw the first race with the JFG Motorsports owned Super Stock. With different handling characteristics than Tom Brinser's Super Stock, the team adapted to the changes and secured a 3rd place finish at Spencer Speedway. In the same weekend, the team was scheduled to race at Lancaster Motorplex saturday and the first Race of Champions Street Stock race of the season sunday. Trouble struck at Lancaster, as Gusty was involved in a wreck and bent the rear end of the Street Stock. Luckily, the team was able to bring the car to a race shop near the speedway to assemble and install a new rear end housing overnight and early morning. The team rushed over to Wyoming County International Speedway, just barely making it to the first practice session. The car ran amazingly and Gusty was able to win his first RoC Street Stock race. A pair of second place finishes at Lancaster closed out the month of June.

In the month of July, Gusty would be faced with many challenges and bad luck. Holland marked the return of Gusty competing in a 4-Cylinder race car, driving one of Wilbert's Golden Bombs. Although Jake was charging to the front, a steering rod failed, ending Gusty's run. For the Street Stock races at Lancaster, Gusty finished 4th the first race in August and 9th in the second race after being sent to the back late in the race. At Chemung in Tom's Super Stock, transmission issues continuned. Jake was unable to get any practice laps in, but was able to finish 4th in the feature. At Lancaster with Tom's Super Stock, Gusty put the car in contention for a win. After a late race restart, the throttle hung open and sent the car into the wall. Luckily, the frame was not compromised and the car was able to be repaired and race another day.

The stig made a surprise guest appearance at Oswego for the Friday race, as Corey Copeland drove the red white and blue 66 compact. Gusty coached him throughout the day, giving corey a 4th place finish. Jacob took the wheel Saturday and started in the rear. He passed over 30 cars in 16 laps but came up one spot short of winning the race. This would mark the last race the compact would compete in for JFG Motorsports. Also, Gusty raced the super stock race in the US Open weekend at Lancaster. He had his best finish of the season in the super stock division, after finishing one spot short again.
October:
-10/7 : Wyoming County International Speedway - Street Stock: 1st -10/7: Wyoming County International Speedway - Super Stock: 1st
With a hectic 2023 season, the last race of the season was at Wyoming County International Speedway. Last year at this event, Tom's Super Stock was one of the cars to beat, but an ignition problem occured, taking Gusty out of contention for the win. This year, the team seeked redempion and celebrate the last race with Tom's Super Stock.
Summary: Overall the super stock was a new car; it took a little time to work out a few bugs. Tom built a great car and made upgrades to help Jacob be even faster. Jacob is super proud that the car was never seriously damaged throughout the season.
The compact was just what it has always been; a solid car. The Southern trips exposed a few weaknesses but we sorted them out and leaned a bunch. This was the last year running a compact and we recently sold the whole program. It was not an easy decision but it was the right move to keep Jacob’s progression going forward.
The street stock was a huge learning experience. Our plan was to have Jacob drive it how we bought it for a few races and then make changes so Jacob knew the changes to the car. Jacob made huge gains with the car and it was faster as the season went on. We also made a new friend, Ken Maltby, who helped us with the car as he was the past owner.
Jacob won the rookie of the year in the Lancaster street stock division.
Overall it was a great year. Jacob grew as a driver; we learned a great deal as a team, made some new teammates and really enjoyed the racing.
Thank you to all of our fans, family, supporters, and sponsors. Without all your support, we wouldn’t be able to do this.
